"You Will Be At My Panel": History of the Yandere (13+)
Sunday November 3, 2024 1:00am - 2:00am EST
Yandere characters have a curious intrigue or mystique to them. This second entry in our series looks into this archetype that seems to have been around forever, but their origin is much more rooted in Japanese folktale and Noh theater. Find out how the Yandere trope has changed over time, and it applies to more - and sometimes fewer - characters than expected.

Horror in Anime: It's All Psychological (18+)
Sunday November 3, 2024 1:00am - 2:00am EST
We all love a good jump scare or maybe some gore, but what if someone were to tell you there is something more sinister behind every horror anime? Behind every show and its characters are the psychological aspects. An aspect that makes the story more bone chilling than they could ever be. Join our host from Merc with a Podcast as he breaks down some of the top horror animes out there and the psychological horror behind them. Oh and course the physics in High School of the Dead will be discussed. It is not a horror anime panel without High School of the Dead.

PFS2 5-19: Demonic Afterparty
Sunday November 3, 2024 8:00am - 1:00pm EST
A demonic cult recently performed a ritual to great success, part of its leader's grander schemes. Her work near Nerosyan complete for now, she left a token force to guard the site, no longer needing it, and prepared to travel elsewhere for grander plans. This activity, though, has been noticed. The ritual site was supposed to be completely abandoned, but a group of traveling merchants noticed the strange activity. This was reported to the Nerosyan leadership, who in turn have pressured Venture-Captain Jorsal of Lauterbury to get involved. Jorsal has decided to send the PCs, to investigate the site itself, assuming that a place so near the city likely isn’t much of a threat.

PFS2 6-02: Rain Falls on the Mountain of Sea and Sky
Sunday November 3, 2024 8:00am - 1:00pm EST
Many newer agents are often sent to the Three Gates Lodge to make sure that the wildlife on the island isn’t out of control, and that the various allies that the Society made when claiming the lodge are rewarded for their continued aid. The tasks are routine, as the greatest threats were dealt with when initially setting up the lodge, and Venture-Captain Kukuha Mukai performed a ritual utilizing the ley-lines. This ritual is a form of powerful defensive magic and almost guarantees safety from all but the direst threats.

The PCs are the latest agents dispatched for this duty. Unfortunately for them, shortly after they arrive, so too does the direst of threats: a god dies, and a strange rain falls over the island, just as the PCs are being briefed. Now they have to deal with the literal fallout, as no one else is near, and no help can come for some time.

Sunday November 3, 2024 9:00am - 11:00am EST
A group of powerful Pathfinders had to abandon the exploration of an underground complex after defeating a powerful lich and stopping a devatating ritual by the skin of their teeth. The PCs are tasked with exploring this complex now cleared of threats and cataloguing what's there. The ritual, though, while incomplete, has still linked the site to its conterpart in the Netherworld, and once they enter the PCs find that their task will not be as simple or boring as promised, as they have to fight through the shadowy mirror of the Netherworld complex just to get back home, with unknown threats that most assuredly were not cleared out.

Exhibit Hall Policy

  1. All outstanding general rules of the convention are still applicable while attendees are in the Exhibit Hall except where modified or expanded below. No rules are repealed.

  2. Shoplifting, or attempted shoplifting, of any merchandise or personal property will not be tolerated. Offenders may be permanently banned from all current and future ESSI events. We also reserve the right to share your name with other conventions in an informal warning system, and the victims of the crime will have the opportunity to prosecute offenders.

  3. No photography is to take place within the Exhibit Hall, in the doorway area of the Exhibit Hall, or anywhere within six feet of the Exhibit Hall doors. Violators will be politely asked to leave the area. Those who do not comply will be escorted out of, and away from, the Exhibit Hall for the benefit of all other attendees. This is to ensure easy access for attendees and staff, and to ensure that emergency exits are maintained.

  4. Obstructions, as defined in the NekoCon Weapons Policy, even if allowed into the convention as a whole, will not be allowed into the Exhibit Hall. Further, any attendee with an oversized prop or costume that limits the wearer’s mobility in such a way as to keep them from freely flowing with standard tight-fitting foot traffic shall not enter the Exhibit Hall. This will include, but not be limited to, any costume with protrusions (especially sharp ones) of more than four inches, six or more inches thick foam or other material throughout, headpieces of more than thrice human normal size, feet more than two thrice a standard human’s, extensions mounted to the back that are more than six inches wider than the person wearing them, or other similar defining factors. Final verdict is in the hands of the Exhibit Hall staff or their superiors.

  5. Outside bags, backpacks, and storage devices (such as fanny packs and other bags of comparable size) are allowed. However, they must be a size that is standard for their nature. Please keep in mind that in the close press of bodies, it will be impossible for Exhibit Hall staff to help you keep an eye on your backpack or fanny pack at all times, and NekoCon cannot be held accountable for any theft that takes place. The various bags issued by our dealers shall not be allowed to re-enter the Exhibit Hall. Please take these bags and their contents to your hotel room, vehicle, or other storage arrangement as soon as you are finished shopping in the Exhibit Hall.

  6. No props, bags of any nature, parts of costumes, trash, or any other items shall be left unattended inside of, or within the vicinity of, the Exhibit Hall. At no point will these items be considered “held,” or “reserved.” They will be treated as Lost and Found or trash as the Staff deems necessary to keep the convention center clean. Cleaning staff will do the same as they see fit, often with their own separate Lost and Found. At no time will any Staff member be held responsible for any abandoned items, even if they interacted with said item after abandonment.

  7. As outlined in the NekoCon Weapons Policy, certain items can be purchased within the Exhibit Hall that can be carried within the convention center under our rules and policies. When these items are purchased from the Exhibit Hall, attendees are to leave the Exhibit Hall before removing and properly disposing of any and all packaging materials, or putting those materials in your hotel room, vehicle, or other storage arrangement. Purchased items from the Exhibit Hall, may return to the Exhibit Hall once they are removed from all packaging outside of the Exhibit Hall, are in compliance with all other rules and policies (including peace bonding any weapons), and the items are not inside a dealer issued bag. Anyone opening a product within the confines of the Exhibit Hall will be escorted out of the Exhibit Hall.

  8. The NekoCon and Convention Center Staff both reserve the right to deny entry to the Exhibit Hall at any time, for any reason, without having to provide said reason. Disputes with Exhibit Hall staff regarding this rule this or any other rule can be taken up with the Department Head of Exhibit Hall, the Division Heads of Finance, or the NekoCon Convention Chairperson, in that order. Convention Center staff can only direct complaints to NekoCon Staff on your behalf, and should be allowed to run the Convention Center itself.

LARP - Room Hours
Sunday November 3, 2024 10:00am - 4:00pm EST
Remember when you were a kid and you used to run around and pretend you were a dinosaur or an astronaut? LARP is simply that, but we’ve got some rules in place to keep things in order (so your brother doesn’t show up as Godzilla and destroy your space shuttle without any repercussions), and allow you to play as your favorite manga, anime, sentai, and limited video game characters for a weekend.
The NekoCon LARP focuses on getting up and moving around, but otherwise works like a standard tabletop RPG. Playing as a character of your choosing from our extensive database of characters from anime and manga, you’ll take part in a three-day storyline that our imaginative staff have written up. Be it playing as Son Goku from Dragon Ball Z and taking part in a hot dog eating contest, Erin from Attack on Titan trying to hunt for treasure, or playing as Sailor Moon and trying to become the Junior Prom Queen, every year promises a new story and a new adventure for our players. Instead of using dice to resolve actions, we use the Nexus system, which is based on rock, paper, scissors. It’s very easy to pick up, and we welcome new players every year to our already growing group of attendees. The beauty of the NekoCon LARP is that you can play as much or as little as you’d like over the course of the weekend… So whether you’re looking for a brief con distraction or looking to sink your teeth into our delicious plot, stop on by! We’re always looking for fresh meat, er… new players.
Even if you’re shy or don’t know what a LARP is really like in practice, please feel free to stop by our event room and see how we do things. We love having people ask questions, and they usually end up playing in our game. If there is a character you’ve always wanted to pretend to be (whether you’re in cosplay or not), chances are we have a character sheet of them. Don’t be afraid, if anything LARP has piqued your interest, come by our room and see what we’re all about. Reading about it won’t do justice to seeing the fun in person!

  3. Obstructions, as defined in the NekoCon Weapons Policy, even if allowed into the convention as a whole, will not be allowed into the Artist Alley. Further, any attendee with an over-sized prop or costume that limits the wearer’s mobility in such a way as to keep them from freely flowing with standard tight-fitting foot traffic shall not enter the Artist Alley. Final say is in the hands of the Con Safety Staff posted at the Artist Alley’s doors, or their superiors.
  4. Outside bags, backpacks, and storage devices such as fanny packs, are allowed. They must be a size that is standard for their nature. Please keep in mind that in the close press of bodies, it will be impossible for Artist Alley or Con Safety Staff to help you keep an eye on your backpack or fanny pack at all times, and NekoCon cannot be held accountable for any theft that takes place, so use personal caution always. The various bags issued by our dealers shall not be allowed to re-enter the Artist Alley. Please take these bags and their contents to your hotel room, vehicle, or other storage arrangement as soon as you are finished shopping in the Artist Alley.
  5. No props, bags of any nature, parts of costumes, trash, or any other items shall be left unattended inside of, or within the vicinity of, the Artist Alley.
  6. As outlined in the NekoCon Weapons Policy, certain items can be purchased within the Artist Alley that can be carried within the convention center under our rules and policies. When these items are purchased from the Artist Alley, attendees are to leave the Artist Alley before removing and properly disposing of any and all packaging materials, or putting those materials in your hotel room, vehicle, or other storage arrangement.  Purchased items from the Artist Alley, if they follow all other rules and policies, including peace bonding any weapons and the items are not inside a Dealer issued bag, may return to the Artist Alley once removed from all packaging outside of the Artist Alley. Anyone opening a product within the confines of the Artist Alley wil  be escorted out of the Artist Alley.
  7. The NekoCon and Convention Center Staff both reserve the right to deny entry to the Artist Alley at any time, for any reason, without having to provide said reason. Disputes with Artist Alley Staff or Con Safety Staff over this or any other rule can be taken up with the Head of Artist Alley, the Head of Con Safety, or the NekoCon Convention Chairperson, in that order. Convention Center Staff can only direct complaints to NekoCon Staff on your behalf, and should be allowed to run the Convention Center itself.

PFS2 Quest (Series 2) #14: The Swordlord’s Challenge
Sunday November 3, 2024 11:00am - 1:00pm EST
An Aldori swordlord who fought alongside Pathfinders years ago is looking for a way to push her students harder. She issues a challenge to Marcos Farabellus, the Master of Swords, boasting that her most promising young pupils can defeat any Marcos has trained. She stakes her pride as a teacher and a powerful weapon she used during the Fifth Crusade on the outcome. Marcos both believes such a relic, taken to the very heart of the Worldwound, would be an excellent addition to the Society's vaults and that the PCs are the perfect students on which to stake his own pride. The PCs must do their utmost to justify the faith he has placed in them and win a great victory-- and perhaps a new ally-- for the Pathfinder Society.

Video Gaming - Room Hours
Sunday November 3, 2024 11:00am - 3:00pm EST
General Video Game Room RulesFailure to adhere to these rules may result in your expulsion from the Video Game Room and/or NekoCon.
Be a good sport
Share the games and no cheating.
Keep it clean
Keep all food and drink away from the games, and throw away any trash in proper receptacles.
NekoCon is not responsible for your stuff
Please keep an eye on your personal belongings, and leave any valuables in a safe place like your hotel room. Any found items will be taken to lost and found at the Info Desk.
Walk, don’t run
There are a lot of cables and delicate equipment, and we don’t want anyone to trip or crash into anything.
Do not mess with the equipment
If something (i.e. console, controller, TV, etc.) isn’t working properly, please inform one of the Video Game Room staffers. Do not tamper with or attempt to fix any hardware yourself. If you are found in violation of this rule you may be held liable for any damages incurred.
Personal Controllers
The use of personal controllers is prohibited. To check out a controller, please see the Video Game Room staff at the main table near the Video Game Room entrance.
Wireless Controllers
To check out a wireless controller (i.e. Xbox, Wii, PlayStation, etc.) please see a Video Game Room staffer at the main table near the Video Game Room entrance. Picture identification (i.e. military ID, state driver’s license/permit, etc.) and your NekoCon badge will be required to check out a controller. When you are finished, please return the controller to the main table to receive your ID and NekoCon badge. PLEASE double check before you leave that you have the correct ID and badge. We request that you sanitize your hands prior to receiving a controller and after turning a controller in.
Sharing Controllers
We don’t recommend passing controllers off to other players. You will be held responsible if the controller goes missing while loaned out in your name. If someone wishes to use your controller when you are finished, please take them with you to the main desk so that we can issue it in their name.
Tournaments
Make sure to visit the Video Game Room to view and sign up for a tournament! Sign ups will be available in the tournament area on the day the tournament is held (unfortunately we do not allow sign ups for future days tournaments - i.e. you cannot sign up for Saturday tournaments on Friday). ADR History
Sunday November 3, 2024 11:30am - 12:30pm EST
It’s been known by many names, looping, dubbing, etc., but Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR) has been with us since the early days of “talkies”, when a loop of film would be cut and spliced for each scene to be re-recorded. Over the decades, many techniques and technologies were developed to the point where it’s now a task done via computer. Come join us as we take a trip down memory lane and discuss how the process got started, the many styles of ADR that were developed through the years, the technology involved, and maybe even have some fun trying some ADR for yourself.
